Half Marathon/10k/5k Information

Race Date – Sunday, May 26, 2019

  • 8:00am – Half Marathon
  • 8:20am – 10k
  • 8:30am – 5k

The DVP will be closed on Sunday May 26 for maintenance work. Please plan your travel time accordingly.

Wave Start Details:

Half Marathon Wave Start: To enable everyone to have the fastest and safest race possible, we will be utilizing a three wave start for this year’s half marathon.

You will be assigned to a corral/starting position based on the estimated finishing time you provided upon registration. If you need to change your projected finishing time, please e-mail us with your new estimated finishing time. All changes must be received NO LATER than Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Pre-Race Kit Pick-up Location and Times:

Location: Rosedale Running Room – 1087 Yonge St, Toronto, ON, M4W 2L5
(south of the Summerhill TTC station, north of the Rosedale TTC station)

  • Friday May 24: 12:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Saturday May 25: 10:00am – 5:00pm
  • In Person/Late Registration can be done at kit pick up, please note we can only accept cash for late registrations and late entries are limited and sell out fast.
  • There will be NO race day registration.

Race Kit Pick-Up Information:

  • If your phone number begins with 416/647, you MUST pick up your kit prior to race day.
  • All you need to do is find your bib number on our “Find Your Number Board” at the Rosedale Running Room and show us a piece of photo identification OR a printout of your registration e-mail confirmation.

Picking up for a Friend or Having a Friend pick up your kit for you:

  • This isn’t a problem at all. If you are picking up a kit for a friend/friends, you will need to find their bib number on our “Find Your Number Board” at the Rosedale Running Room store.
  • You will also need an e-mail from them stating you can pick up their kit for them or a copy of their email registration confirmation.

Out of Towner’s: Race day kit pick-up is limited to those living outside 416/647 area code only.

  • If you live out of town and you are driving to into town on race morning, you can pick up your race kit at the race site beginning at 6:45am.

Course Descriptions:

  • Half Marathon Course: This is a mainly flat, two-loop course on a paved path but it is NOT closed to the public.

Race Results: Results will be posted immediately after the race at: www.sportstats.ca

Timing: We will be using the Mylaps BIBTAG Timing system at all of our races this season. With this technology your timing chip or “bibtag” is now placed on the back of your race bib. It must be correctly worn on race day for your race time to be accurately captured. Important Info:

  • Do not remove the “bibTag” or foam spacer from your bib
  • Do not fold your bib or excessively bend or twist the “bibTag”
  • Wear your bib on your front. Do not wear on your back, side, leg or arm
  • Remember, it’s “NO BIB = NO TIME!”

Time Limit for the Half Marathon: The time limit is 3 hours, 30 minutes for completing the half marathon race before the finish line is dismantled.

Hydration and Nutrition:

  • Pre-Race and Post Race: at the Start/Finish Line – supplied with Eska Water and nuun active electrolyte drink
  • On Course:
    The Half Marathon has six water/electrolyte stations with Eska Water and nuun active electrolyte drink approximately every 3km on the route.
    The 10k has three water/nuun active electrolyte stations on the route.
    The 5k has one water station/nuun active electrolyte station on the route.

On Course Nutrition: CLIF Gels will be at the 13k mark of the half marathon.

Bag Check: Bag check opens on race day at 6:45am. You are strongly encouraged to drop off your bag as early as possible. Use the removable baggage tag on your bib and attach it to your bag.

Porta-Potties: We have lots of them and they’re at the start/finish area and at each hydration station on the route.

Finish Line Safety: Safety is our priority at all Toronto Women’s Run Series. For that reason, and in response to participant feedback, children are not allowed to cross the finish line with their mother unless they are registered in the race. We have created this policy to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers and fans. Allowing non-participants, including young children, to cross the finish line serves as a distraction to other finishers, poses a safety risk and disrupts our finish line operations. We know you want to celebrate this wonderful achievement of finishing the race with your children, but we ask you to do so only after you cross the finish line. Family and friends are encouraged to reunite with their athlete in the post-race area just beyond the finish line.

Age Limits: All children must be registered in the race. The minimum age for participation in the half marathon is 16 years old. The minimum age  in the 10k & 5k is 6 years old. Anyone under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult who is also registered in the race.

Race Photographers: All race day pictures are FREE. Our official race photographers, ZoomPhoto, will be on the course and at the finish line taking photos. You will receive an e-mail after the race with a link to all your race day photos!

Awards: Top three women overall and top 3 per age group (5 year age groups)

Getting to the Race Site at Wilket Creek Park: Main entrance to Wilket Creek Park is at the main park entrance to Sunnybrook Park at 1132 Leslie Street. M3C 3L8, Toronto.  This entrance is just 100m north of Eglinton Ave. East.

  • Driving: The entrance to the park is at 1132 Leslie St., M3C 3L8 Toronto. This is 100m north of Leslie & Eglinton.

  • From the 401 (north of park)
    Take the Leslie St. exit off the 401, proceed south almost six kilometres to the entrance of Sunnybrook Park.

  • From downtown Toronto
    Go north on Avenue Rd., Yonge St., Mt. Pleasant or Bayview to Eglinton Ave., turn right (east), continue to Leslie St., turn left (north) 100m to the entrance of Sunnybrook Park.

  • From 404/DVP
    From Don Valley Parkway, exit at Eglinton Ave., go west to Leslie St., turn right (north) and proceed 100m to the entrance of Sunnybrook Park.

  • Public Transit – TTC
    There is 24 hour bus TTC service along Eglinton Ave. East. Visit www.ttc.ca for more info. On weekends/race morning, TTC service might be more intermittent than usual. You might consider taking a cab to the start line or carpooling and then taking the TTC home.

Parking: Parking within the park system is limited. Please keep in mind that everyone will have to park and walk to the start area. Give yourself at least 15-20 minutes to get into the park, to park and then to walk to the start area.

  • Note: The park is NOT closed to traffic so please pay attention to parking marshals and follow their directions to the appropriate lots. Do NOT park illegally as you may receive a ticket. All roads and areas within the parking lots are subject to all City of Toronto parking by-laws.

Parking inside the park:

  1. Directly inside the park, north of the main entrance (150m from start/finish line)
  2. Past the washrooms (a 250m walk to start / finish line) in the Serena Gundy Parking lot
  3. Along park road (a 300m walk to start / finish line)
  4. In the middle lot (just a 400m walk to start / finish line)
  5. In the lot across from Sunnybrook Stables
  6. In the lot at the playing fields at the top of the hill

POGO Pledge Drop Off: Representatives from POGO will be at the POGO tent for pledge collection. You can drop off any funds you have at the tent.

Spectator Information: You can watch your friends and family start and finish the race at the start/finish line and along the last 500m to the finish line. Also, you can access the park by car at:

  • Don Mills Road at the Elevated Wetlands
  • Within the park: Via Thornecliffe Park Ave Park access and down the hill into the parking lot – route is very accessible
  • Beechwood Drive – Half Marathon West Route access point
  • At bottom of hill at Gateway Blvd. off of Don Mills Road, just south of the Ontario Science Centre.

There is very limited coffee or food available at the race site. This means that you should plan appropriately by bringing snacks and beverages with you. There is lots of green space south of the start line, you can spread out a blanket, watch the race and cheer on the runners. Tim Horton’s, Starbucks and other retailers are about 3k from the start/ finish line on Eglinton Ave E. at Brentcliffe Ave, and on Don Mills Road, just south of the Ontario Science Centre.

Riding your bike to the park is another great way to see all the action. We do ask that you give the runners “right of way” along the path when appropriate.
